Lady Gaga Fought Back Tears Tracing Her Journey At Her Historic Apollo Theater Debut

For an hour and 30 minutes on Monday night (June 24), Lady Gaga gave an intimate yet intense, historic, career-spanning performance at Harlem’s Apollo Theater in New York City. It was her debut at the legendary locale and her first time performing in her home city in more than two years, so it was only right that, as fan-captured footage revealed, she pulled out all the stops — transferring the magnificence of her Enigma Las Vegas residency to a smaller scale while retaining its majestic air. She celebrated Pride Week in between a storm of popular songs, took fans on a nostalgic trip that stretched back to the late 2000s, and perhaps most emotionally, reflected on her enigmatic rise that got her here in the first place. It was a full Gaga affair, with outrageous, futuristic outfits and colored hair to denote differences in characters and times. At various points of the performance, she was close to tears while walking through her memory museum. In a glittering, ...

Jeff Chiu/Associated Press Golden State Warriors star Andre Iguodala covered a wide range of topics during a radio interview Tuesday, including the full extent of his leg injury during the 2018 postseason. The Breakfast Club on 105.1 FM in New York had Iguodala on to discuss his new book The Sixth Man and other NBA -related topics ( warning: contains NSFW language ): One of the key talking points was how Iguodala’s leg injury during the 2018 NBA playoffs was actually a fracture rather than a bone bruise: “Everyone is feeding stuff in our head, ‘When KD [ Kevin Durant ] coming back?’ … Last year it happened to me. I missed the last three games of the Houston series. It goes to Game 7, we barely get out of that series. Now they’re looking at me like, ‘When are you coming back?’ I had a fractured leg, but it’s being put out there like, he’s got a bone bruise. … I’m fighting with the team, I’m fighting with people, I’m fighting with the media. Then my teammates ask me every da...

US House passes $4.5bn emergency border aid bill

Washington, DC  – Setting up a policy confrontation with US President Donald Trump over his administration’s handling of the surge of migrants at the US southwest border , the Democrat-controlled US House of Representatives approved a $4.5bn emergency border aid bill late on Tuesday. The 230-195 vote follows an outcry over reports of inhumane conditions for children held by the United States at border detention centres. It also comes amid deep and long-running divisions between Democrats and Republicans over how to reform the US  immigration system. Trump, despite having requested the $4.5bn border aid package, on Monday warned he  would likely veto the House bill as Senate Republicans, who back the president’s hardline immigration policies, prepared to advance an emergency spending bill without the same restrictions on how the funds could be used. “It is my hope that we send a resounding message today in the house, and that the Senate does what it has said it wa...

San Francisco is 1st major US city to ban e-cigarettes

San Francisco became the first major U.S. city to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes after supervisors gave the measure its second and final vote Tuesday. Backers say they hope the legislation will curb underage use of e-cigarettes, but critics say the ban will make it harder for adults to purchase an alternative to regular cigarettes. San Francisco is a city that celebrates its marijuana culture, but it appears deeply opposed to other vices. Last year, voters approved a ban on the sale of flavored tobacco and in 2016, a tax on sugar-sweetened drinks. E-cigarette maker Juul Labs, which is based in San Francisco, says it is opposed to youth vaping. The company is working on a ballot initiative that would regulate but not ban e-cigarette sales.
