Avocados, cars, and all the other products that will get more expensive if Trump puts a 5% tariff on Mexico

In a Thursday tweet, President Donald Trump announced he would be slapping Mexico with a new round of tariffs on imports of Mexican goods in an effort to punish the country over illegal immigration. “On June 10th, the United States will impose a 5% Tariff on all goods coming into our Country from Mexico, until such time as illegal migrants coming through Mexico, and into our Country, STOP,” Trump wrote. In a follow-up statement, the White House announced that the tariffs would escalate to 25% by September if illegal immigration did not decrease. Despite the Trump administration’s efforts to reduce rates of illegal border crossings and discourage potential asylum seekers, an estimated 100,000 people were apprehended at the border last month. ‘It changes the dynamics of the industry a lot’: Foursquare wants to become the biggest location-based advertising company with its acquisition of Snap’s Placed and potentially others

A lot of ad-tech companies sell location data to marketers, and Foursquare wants to become the biggest. The location-based firm on May 31 announced plans to acquire rival firm Placed from Snap. Placed and Foursquare collect first-party data from 30 million consumers to help advertisers understand how seeing an online ad leads people to shop offline. Foursquare and Placed claim that more than 1,000 advertisers use their location tech to run and measure campaigns. Foursquare also provides targeting and measurement tools for advertisers and publishers and powers location tools for developers in 150,000 apps including Twitter, Uber, and Accuweather. Read more: How confusing tech, GDPR, and a shifting consumer climate killed the once huge promise of location-based ads Marketers have long been interested in targeting ads to consumers based on their location. Hezbollah chief warns war against Iran would ‘engulf region’

The head of the Lebanese political and armed movement Hezbollah has warned that any war against Iran would cause the Middle East to “erupt”. Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday that the United States “know well that any war on Iran will not remain confined to Iran’s borders. The entire region will burn”, leading to all US forces and interests in the region being “annihilated”.  The head of the Iran-backed movement made the comments in a televised speech as emergency meetings of the Gulf Cooperation Council ( GCC ) and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference and Arab League took place in Mecca, Saudi Arabia . The meetings were held in order to counter what Saudi Arabia has called Iran’s growing influence in the region. They take place amid escalating tensions between the US and Iran.  In the year since President Donald Trump withdrew the US from a landmark 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and several other world powers Washington has since steadily ratcheted up pressure on Tehra

NBA Power Rankings: Every Team’s Likelihood of a Summer Blockbuster Trade

Image
Sean Gardner/Getty Images 5. Los Angeles Clippers Over the last two years, the Clippers have traded Chris Paul, Blake Griffin and Tobias Harris. They clearly have no problem striking deals. Mainly viewed as a free-agent destination because of ample cap space, heaps of young assets and their long-known interest in Kawhi Leonard, the Clippers should also be viewed as a serious threat to make a blockbuster trade. Danilo Gallinari’s expiring contract is one valuable chip, and incoming first-rounders from Philadelphia in 2020 and Miami in 2021 are two more. Throw those together with some young talent—like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and/or Landry Shamet, as ESPN’s   Bobby Marks   outlined—and the Clippers could put together a real package for Anthony Davis. The Clips are ambitious, laden with desirable pieces and clearly positioning themselves to add stars. It’ll be surprising if they  don’t  make a bold move.          4. Boston Celtics Much depends on Kyrie Irving ‘s free-agency de

$13 billion identity company Okta rose as high as 12% the day after reporting earnings, and Wall Street says it’s a result of ‘excellent momentum’

Okta’s stock rose as high as 12% a day after it reported its quarterly earnings — results that show “excellent momentum” for the nearly $13 billion company. On Thursday, Okta reported a quarterly revenue of $125.2 million, a rise of 50% from the previous year, and well ahead of Wall Street’s expectations of $116.86 million. Okta topped analyst expectations for next quarter too. Okta is predicting a revenue of $130 to $131 million, while Wall Street expected it to project $127.54 million. With all that, it’s no surprise that Okta’s stock rose about 6% after hours on Thursday, and even higher still on Friday. “The results are even better than we anticipated,” Jonathan Ho, partner at William Blair, told Business Insider. “That’s reflected in the stock moving up. Importantly, the companies talk about success and new opportunities which helps drive the case for further upside. The company seems to be doing better at winning more.” What Ho means is that Okta has been adding more produc

Expert: Assange showed symptoms of ‘psychological torture’

An independent expert for the U.N.-backed Human Rights Council who visited Julian Assange in a London prison says the WikiLeaks founder “showed all symptoms typical for prolonged exposure to psychological torture.” The U.N. human rights office said Friday that Nils Melzer, the special rapporteur on torture, visited Assange on May 9 with two medical experts in examining potential victims of torture and ill-treatment. Melzer said it was “obvious” that Assange’s health had been affected by “the extremely hostile and arbitrary environment ” he faced for years. U.S. authorities accuse Assange of violating the Espionage Act over publication of secret documents. Sweden wants to question him about sexual misconduct allegations. Assange lived in Ecuador’s Embassy in London in 2012 until he was arrested in April after Ecuadorean officials withdrew his asylum status. Read More from Trend News Web http://bit.ly/2WxQoC6

Pascal Siakam, Raptors Already Putting Kevin Durant-Less Warriors on Notice

Image
Joe Murphy/Getty Images Star power remains the most effective way to win an NBA title. The Golden State Warriors , at full strength, have noticeably more superstar heft than the Toronto Raptors .  Without Kevin Durant , though? Not so much. They’re supposed to have the edge anyway. Whether they actually do is very much to be determined.  Pascal Siakam is why. He led the way for the Raptors during their 118-109 victory over the Warriors on Thursday night, tallying 32 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks on impressive 14-of-17 shooting from the floor. Just to put his performance in perspective, here’s every other player to match those benchmarks in an NBA Finals game since 1974: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (eight times) LeBron James (five times) Julius Erving (twice) Kobe Bryant Tim Duncan Kevin Durant Dwyane Wade   That’s a pretty OK list to join. And this company Siakam now keeps reinforces a larger point: Kawhi Leonard isn’t the Raptors’ singular source of

Philippines ships 69 containers of dumped rubbish back to Canada

A cargo ship carrying tonnes of rubbish dumped in the Philippines by Canada more than five years ago, causing a festering diplomatic row, has left the Southeast Asian country, as nations in the region increasingly reject serving as dumpsites for wealthier states. The 69 shipping containers of rotting waste were loaded onto the M/V Bavaria at Subic Bay port in the early hours of Friday, before embarking on a 20-day journey to Vancouver, in southwestern Canada . “Baaaaaaaaa bye, as we say it,” Philippine Foreign Secretary Teodoro Locsin wrote on Twitter, along with images of the vessel leaving. Gucci Mane And Justin Bieber Find ‘Love Thru The Computer’ On Surprise New Song

When Justin Bieber decides to make a comeback, he doesn’t waste any time. After lending his voice to Lil Dicky’s star-studded “ Earth ,” making a cameo during Ariana Grande’s headlining Coachella set , and connecting with Ed Sheeran on the instant hit “ I Don’t Care ,” Biebs is back with another new musical offering. This time, the 25-year-old has joined Gucci Mane on the rapper’s new song “Love Thru The Computer,” which arrived without any warning, promo, or teases late Thursday night (May 30). That’s an especially impressive move considering that Guwop and Biebs were sitting on a certified bop that’s about to make Summer ’19 sound a lot sunnier. Gucci turns in a couple loved-up verses — “This the type of love more than physical / When a king get a queen he invincible” — while Bieber adds his Auto-Tuned melodies to the hook. “You can meet me, you can meet me on my laptop … That’s that computer love,” he sings over the old school-inspired production. While Bieber has kept a low p

Trump: US to impose five percent tariff on all Mexican goods

Image
US President Donald Trump said on Thursday he will impose a tariff on all goods arriving from Mexico in response to what he called a “mass incursion” of migrants entering the country “illegally”. Trump said the tariff would start at five percent on June 10 but then rise in stages every month to 25 percent on October 1 and remain at that level unless Mexico stops migrants from crossing the US’ southern border. “As everyone knows, the United States of America has been invaded by hundreds of thousands of people coming through Mexico and entering our country illegally. This sustained influx of illegal aliens has profound consequences on every aspect of our national life,” Trump said in a statement . “Mexico’s passive cooperation in allowing this mass incursion constitutes an emergency.” “If the illegal migration crisis is alleviated through effective actions taken by Mexico, to be determined in our sole discretion and judgment, the tariffs will be removed,” he added. How Alaska Thunderfuck Is Creating Safe Spaces For Queens, Femmes, And Everyone

Image
By Evan Ross Katz “Everything must be leopard print,” Alaska Thunderfuck declares on the second track of hew new album, Vagina . True to form, as she entered RuPaul’s DragCon on Saturday morning (May 25), everything was leopard print — the dress, the headband, the gloves, and her four minions, who flanked the queen in leopard print bodysuits that fully covered their faces. Subtle? Not quite. But subtlety has never been part of Thunderfuck’s brand. As the winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race: All Stars 2 , Alaska was on hand not just to spread the word about the first-ever Drag Queen of the Year Pageant , which Thunderfuck organized on Sunday evening, but to give fans their first listen of the album. Getty Images “It was really a surprise,” she tells MTV News of  the album, which dropped on Friday without any promotion. “I think we just had a lot of stuff going on and I was just like… DragCon weekend, let’s just do it.” And so it was: a brand new album, the third solo LP from the singer,

Former US Sen. Thad Cochran of Mississippi dies at 81

In the Washington political scene of bombast and big egos, Republican Thad Cochran of Mississippi wielded power with a quiet, gentlemanly demeanor. He played piano in his Capitol Hill office and dashed off handwritten notes of thanks or congratulations to constituents. The white conservative reared in the segregationist the Deep South hired African American staff members, supported historically black universities and received support from black voters who provided a crucial margin for victory in his final campaign. As a leader on agriculture and budget issues, he steered billions of dollars to his home state. Cochran died Thursday at age 81, just over a year after retiring. “I’m optimistic about the future of our great nation,” a notably feeble Cochran had said during his farewell speech on the Senate floor in March 2018. He was the 10th longest-serving U.S. senator. He served 45 years in Washington, with the first six years in the House and the rest in the Senate. He became known

Inside The Fight To Help More Women Get Elected In 2020

By Diandra Loux From local municipal races all the way up to the national level, women of every race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, sexual orientation, and profession made themselves heard in the 2018 midterm elections . According to The Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University and The Women in Public Service Project, 125 women, including 45 women of color, won their seats for the U.S. House or the U.S. Senate in the 2018 election cycle. Per Vox , over 42,000 women contacted Emily’s List , an organization that recruits and trains pro-choice women to run for every level of office across the country, about running for office during the 2018 election. The interest was so fierce that they expanded their staff and built out a training program to meet the demand. Emily’s List candidates went on to flip the 24 house seats needed to win the U.S. House majority, and the group is already working with more women ahead of the 2020 election. For many, the surge in 2018 w

Undrafted Rookies Making the Most Noise so Far This Offseason

Image
0 of 8 Justin Casterline/Getty Images For undrafted rookies hoping to land spots on NFL rosters, every day on the field becomes an open audition. Though opportunities are limited during the offseason, teams often find gems after April’s selection process. Some players who didn’t hear their names called during the draft had options with multiple clubs vying to sign them as free agents. Others waited for tryout invites to rookie minicamp. Regardless of their pathways, the most talented athletes shine in short glimpses, which leads to chances at careers in the league. During organized team activities, there are no padded practices. As a result, raw speed, arm talent, pass-catching ability and coverage skills stand out. Last year, New England Patriots cornerback J.C. Jackson rose from an undrafted unknown to a decent contributor in 13 games, including five starts, on a Super Bowl-winning squad. He finished the year with 22 solo tackles, three interceptions and six pass breakups
